(New York) - March 24, 2008 — Tyra Banks has announced that distinguished authorities on women’s issues, Ellen Glazerman and Lourdes Rivera, have been appointed as trustees to her charitable grant-making organization, the TZONE Foundation. The TZONE Foundation raises funds and makes grants to community-based nonprofit organizations that serve low-income and disadvantaged women and girls in Los Angeles, Chicago, and New York City.
“I am honored to welcome Ellen and Lourdes to the TZONE Foundation,” said Tyra Banks. “As successful and driven women, they understand the need for greater foundation support of emerging organizations that focus on women’s issues. I am confident their involvement will support and drive the foundation’s vision of inspiring as many young girls as possible.”
Ellen Glazerman joins TZONE Foundation from Ernst & Young Foundation, where she holds the title of Executive Director and America’s Director of University Relations for Ernst & Young LLP. Glazerman serves on the advisory boards of the firm’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts and formal tax education program, where she helped support a variety of initiatives within the firm’s Office of Public Policy. She is Chair of the Forte Foundation Board of Directors, a nonprofit dedicated to “inspiring women business leaders.” Prior to Ernst & Young, Ellen spent nine years as a development officer, raising private funding for several universities.
Lourdes Rivera is a Program Officer at the Ford Foundation in New York, where she manages a portfolio focused on sexual and reproductive health and rights. Prior to joining Ford in 2006, Rivera spent twelve years as the Managing Attorney of the Los Angeles office of the National Health Law Program (NHeLP). She was responsible for providing policy advocacy, training, technical assistance, litigation and research assistance to legal services attorneys and other low-income and women’s health advocates nationwide. Prior to NHeLP, Ms. Rivera was a Senior Associate with the Children's Defense Fund, where she worked on issues of health access for children. She also was a Georgetown Women’s Law and Public Policy Fellow with the National Women’s Law Center.
“Ellen and Lourdes join the TZONE Foundation at an opportune time,” said Mary Genis, Executive Director of TZONE. “As we expand our grant making, we are honored to have women of this caliber and experience in philanthropy and women’s issues to provide leadership to our grant decisions.”
